Title: Epic Signs?
Lulz0matic - February 29, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
Ok; liek, suggestions and shit?
More importantly, is it Caturday on protest day or is it something rediculous like Post Goatse day on /b/?
Caturday signs would be win.
'Halp! I iz trapped; send cheezburgerz.'
becomes...
'Halp! Thetans! Send e-meter.'
Etc.
Annoam - February 29, 2008 01:28 AM (GMT)
What was the sign standard like last time, all so i want to remind everyone that Signs are fun but i personally think if you dont think you can bring one then dont. I personally wont be bringing a sign unless i can work out a way to cut it down and then assemble.
Still, if you want to bring a sign and want to go with simple you could all ways go with the
"Religion is Free, Scientology is not.
http://www.xenu.net/".
Think that is the Wise Beard Mans url, anyway its simple, no need for large pictures or Memes. It simply states why you are here and gives people more info on the threat of Scientology and how to get involved.
(You can tell its 1:30am, my spelling has gone for a walk)
Lulz0matic - February 29, 2008 01:31 AM (GMT)
I latched to Caturday specifically because of the bastardization to lolcats.
Everyone knows lolcats.
Not to say all signs should be meme based at all; but yeah.
Technically breaking rule #0 of engagement, but ah wellz.

Ahhh but do they? Remember we are going after the general public here so we need to (and this pains me to say this) drop the memes.
We don't want to isolate the public from us... If we do we are no better than the Co$
anon1812 - February 29, 2008 01:43 AM (GMT)
What about doing one side serious slogan, one side meme?
Hermes - February 29, 2008 01:45 AM (GMT)
Aye, good idea......
We got to get "Angry Sign" there as well
Ash - February 29, 2008 01:11 PM (GMT)
There's a simple rule here - leave your memes at home. I'm sorry to be a bit of a lulz killer but this isn't a party. We're protesting to raise public awareness and too much memefun will make us look just like the immature little kids the CoS is so keen to paint us as. Make you signs and banners relevant.
While 2-sided ones (1 meme one CoS-related) would be nice the reality of the situation is that we'll be in the middle of a street, with the public passing us on both sides. We need to get our message across to everyone and if someone passes by and they ONLY pay attention to one sign that's meme-based they'll walk away going "what the hell?!" rather than knowing what we're on about.
Also, be very careful how you word your signs. Last time many people thought we were PRO Scientology, because we didn't make them clear enough. Figure out how you want to word things (but steer clear of anything violent or hateful).
So yeah, much as it sucks, memes shouldn't really feature. We'll have a rickroll and bel aire them at some point just to keep our spirits up, but that should be about it.
Not that I don't think singing "Happy Caturday to yooooou!" to the tune of happy birthday wouldn't be fun... ;)
anon1812 - February 29, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
As for signs... I fail to see why we can't use "cult". Complete fail.
Having said that, I was intent on a "Down with this sort of thing/ Careful now" Myself.
Ash - February 29, 2008 06:06 PM (GMT)
In the past the CoS have used the use of the word 'Cult' as a reason to complain to the police and protesters have been forced to remove signs or leaflets that contain the word. Recently things have been a little free-er, especially when it's used in the context of a quote.
If you want a sign with the C word on it then by all means bring one, but bear in mind you may be forced to ditch it. There's a quote from a newspaper, I think. that has the C word and has been used successfully in protests. Just be careful how you word things, that's all I'm saying.

Understood. Solution - More (varied) signs/ A flipchart.

Exactly!!! (I'm keeping my eyes peeled) Can't find many though :(
Hermes - February 29, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
4 floor flats are a goldmine for those, especially new ones... forklift pallets are also good for sign making
Falco - February 29, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
Just keep them simple and to the point, without being offensive. Any more tends to be unnecessary.
Unfortuantely, I have no way of getting a sign there without it being obvious, so if anyone has a spare, I'd be grateful for the donation :)
anon1812 - February 29, 2008 10:27 PM (GMT)
I can't think of a way of getting there without being obvious, so I was just going to travel masked, with sign, possibly in Bin Bag.

One problem: I think many, if not all, forms of public transport will simply not allow you to travel masked, for fears of terrorism. If you're walking it, fine, if not...

Oh.
This saddens me.
I now do not know how to travel, as I wish to travel masked, as I can't think of a place to get changed in subtly. Walking is not impossible, but I do suffer from Lazy-bastard-itis.

I think there have been several suggestions on Enturb as to where and how you could change. Personally, I think that as it's a Saturday, many places such as McDonalds will be busy, so as far as I can tell the toilets there should make a good place.
Anyone see a problem with this?
anon1812 - February 29, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
That's great... but then getting un-changed offers a problem. If Makky D's has plants therin, watching anons enter, then looking for persons of similar build leaving, they can easily be seen/ tracked.
I have however had an idea...
How likely are Taxis to take masked passengers?
If you can get a taxi for a short distance, then get changed in it/ get out & get changed, and carry on?
TheDudeWhoWearsTheNirvanaShirt - February 29, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Wear a hooded coat or jacket, put the hood up and keep your head down when getting onto the public transport, put the mask on before you get off.
I'm going on the tram, If I can get some cool signs made I'll bring one or two extra.

That was my plan for the most part anyway, although I was going to leave the mask until I got a bit closer, as I was plannig on checking out a few alternative exit routes when I got there. With any luck, I'll stumble across a decent place to make the change anyway.

Win.
The metro lets you travel masked as well, as long as they can see your face for the purpose of metro/travel cards.
I learnt this from an Albion game.

Lulz0matic - March 2, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
Ha. It wasn't me. =)
Had a nice chat with the guy; he was off his face, mind, but he was a nice enough chap.
Hermes - March 2, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
Sure it was..
Anyways I was thinking making this into a sign

Any suggestions? (thanks in advance)
III - March 2, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
I think that's a good idea for a sign.
however I would suggest a colon after the scientology, and maybe a different layout.
at the moment I read it as being scientology mastercards, visas, etc. being accepted there, which could be avoided by it being "scientology: <these cards> accepted here"
also with that version the logos take up too much space in relation to the text, I think, although you do want them to be the focus...
I would suggest finding one of the signs you see on tills and such that say this, and take a quick picture (or just remember it), and try and match them as closely as possible.
TheDudeWhoWearsTheNirvanaShirt - March 2, 2008 04:38 AM (GMT)

Would look good as a t-shirt.
J.B. - March 2, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
^Heh.That's awesome. I also think the credit card one is nice, and original too. As for me... i think i'll go with a standard
SCIENTOLOGY:
YOUR PAIN.
THEIR GAIN.
Hermes - March 2, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
Lol, Xenu pissing on religion
Ok,
version 2And here's one I made
earlier
Tum Tum - March 3, 2008 02:01 PM (GMT)
I had an idea for a sign but don't no if i should use.
It would be
404 ERROR
Sign removed by Scientology due to freedom of speech violations.
or some thing on those lines.
Falco - March 3, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
That actually sounds like a fairly good idea to me, maybe not "due to violations" though, maybe something saying about them stopping free speech? I think that's what was intended, but I don't see the wording putting it across clearly at the moment.

Yeah that was what i was intending. Still plenty of time to re-word it and make other signs as well

Not bad, not bad at all. We just need to be sure the general public don't assume wrongly that if the CoS used legal action, it was against illegal.
