Title: Brumanon IRC

Foamanon - April 1, 2008 10:39 AM (GMT)
(IRC link now available via Mibbit for easy access, simply click the mibbit link and it'll do all the work for you).

I've created a brumanon IRC channel. If an IRC channel has already been created let me know, I did read something in one thread about an IRC server.

Anyway... the channel is:
#brumanon

The server is:
irc.rizon.no

Help for those who have never used IRC before:
For those who have never used IRC before I suggest you download an IRC client such as mIRC.
Once you've downloaded and installed it, type "/server irc.rizon.no" into the main window and it will start to connect. Once connected a window will appear asking you which channel you want to join. Type "#brumanon". If this window doesn't appear just type "/join #brumanon" into the main window. Simple as.
If anyone gets stuck just PM Swifty, Falco, over9000 or anonsrus.

See you there!

Once you have connected, follow these instructions:
Type /msg nickserv register [password] [email] (And follow nickserv's instructions from there. Nickserv requires you to varify your nickname by email. It only takes a few seconds)
Type /nickserv identify [nick] [password]
Type /whois [your nick]. Your IP Address should be displayed to you. (Thats fine)
Type /msg HostServ REQUEST anything.anything.anything (e.g. This.Will.Work )
Type /msg HostServ ON
Type /whois [your nick] one more time and your IP address shouldn't be viewable anymore.

For Firefox users;

1) Get Chazilla: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16
2) Copy and paste this into your address bar: irc://mozilla.se.eu.dal.net/brumanon
3) Set your nickname in Chatzilla > Preferences : General Settings

Voila :)

Or use that...

Edit: I would strongly suggest mIRC though as some anons are reporting problems with hostserv when using chatzilla.

Cheers, Foam, much appreciated!

IRC is epic win.

It's a shame I can't use IRC at work.

anon1812 - April 1, 2008 09:58 PM (GMT)
I like it muchly.

Hey can you use encryption in irc?

Here's a bit on encrypting irc chat:

http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Sysadmin/SecureIRC

anonymitts - April 2, 2008 12:15 PM (GMT)
encryption is one thing, but the main problem is hostmasking, which isn't supported by DALnet (ie, there is no HostServ bot). Without hostmasking, your IP address can be seen by other users of IRC with a simple /whois command.

Personally, I'm not that worried as the major topic of conversation (at least last night) was is NIN a bit gay? LOL.

If we start seriously talking tactics etc. then we should move the channel to a server like Partyvan's or Rizon that do have hostmasking support.

Of course, you can mask your host on any IRC network if you are willing to pay up for a BNC.

A BNC is a shell account that you connect to which is always connected to the IRC channel of your choice. It masks your host for you too. They aren't too expensive, but they are of only any real use if you are going to spend a lot of time on IRC and want to delve into some of the murkier depths of it :)

If anybody does find an alternative way to hide hosts on DALnet please let everyone know.

It wouldn't be too hard to just move to Rizon. Maybe we should.

Epic. :D

646 - April 2, 2008 01:39 PM (GMT)
ive always been a fan of quakenet -

//mode $me +x

and your host is masked (as long as you have an account which takes 30 seconds)

tbh im really not happy with joining this kind of channel where a scifag can get my IP address. with a court order, your ISP have no choice but to give your name address etc to whoever wants them, and with scientologys previous history of having the judicial system wrapped around their high priced lawyers' little fingers, a court order might not be too hard to get.

thats sadly not the only way either.

tl;dr - join that channel and scifags can find out your name+address, which bothers me more than slightly. lets find a different network.

call me paranoid but you wont see me on that network lol.

anon1812 - April 2, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
*is somewhat concerned*

Foamanon - April 2, 2008 06:10 PM (GMT)
Ok, due to the obvious security issues with the last server we've changed to Rizon.

The server address has changed to:
irc.rizon.no

The channel has remained the same:
#brumanon

Once you have connected, follow these instructions:
Type /msg nickserv register [password] [email] (And follow nickserv's instructions from there. Nickserv requires you to varify your nickname by email. It only takes a few seconds)
Type /nickserv identify [nick] [password]
Type /whois [your nick]. Your IP Address should be displayed to you. (Thats fine)
Type /msg HostServ REQUEST anything.anything.anything
Type /msg HostServ ON
Type /whois [your nick] one more time and your IP address shouldn't be viewable anymore.

DONE

ScudMuffin - April 2, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
remember to change the site link.

anon1812 - April 2, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
Umm.... Guys? won't let me register p/wrd... why, oh why?!??!

anonymitts - April 2, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
don't put the square brackets in :)

/msg nickserv register youremail@youremail.com yourpassword

then it should work

If you still can't get it to work properly then don't panic - Rizon obscures the first part of your ip address as standard anyway.

anon1812 - April 2, 2008 08:12 PM (GMT)
yeah password is registered, and I'm identified... it's the rest of It I can't do :(

Falco - April 2, 2008 09:27 PM (GMT)
Same

Put in:
/msg HostServ REQUEST vhost anything.anything.anything

And it says something about needing format of valid hostmask...Help?

ScudMuffin - April 3, 2008 12:50 AM (GMT)
unless there's an easy fill in the blanks chunk i'm staying out of irc for now

anonymitts - April 3, 2008 05:49 AM (GMT)
If you are using MIRC then it should work no problem

this is what I typed in to get my hostmask:

/msg hostserv request I.AM.ANONYMITTS

and ten minutes later it was sorted

I think Chatzilla may not work with hostserv.

And ScudMuffin, no need to worry, Rizon automatically obscures the most important part of the IP address without having to have a full hostmask.

That's wrong

it's

/msg nickserv register password youremail@provider.com

just managed to do it after the server told me that my password wasn't a valid email

can't get the host mask to work.

anonymitts - April 3, 2008 04:16 PM (GMT)
whoops, sorry :)

are you using MIRC?

Falco - April 4, 2008 11:38 AM (GMT)
Suggestion: If anything of actual importance is discussed on IRC, post a summary on here for those that won't know?

No, chatzilla.

anonymitts - April 4, 2008 01:06 PM (GMT)
then that may be the problem

Type /msg HostServ REQUEST vhost anything.anything.anything

Sorted it out now, what you should be typing is

/msg HostServ REQUEST anything.anything.anything

brumanon IRC is brilliant - its really fun to talk to each other, its good to stay informed of the latest goings on, and it has a really cool bot that keeps track of your internets, detects rickrolls, and as of tonight alerts you whenever someone makes a new post on these forums :)

more people should get on it! its great!

646 - April 7, 2008 12:10 PM (GMT)
dont mind me, just testing shit =]

Annoam - April 8, 2008 12:38 AM (GMT)
Mine just keeps tryin to connect then timing out

646 - April 8, 2008 12:39 AM (GMT)
what program are you using?

Annoam - April 8, 2008 12:46 AM (GMT)
MIRC

646 - April 8, 2008 12:49 AM (GMT)
in mIRC just type /server irc.rizon.net and hit enter
then it should connect, then you wanna type /join #brumanon

go to tools -> options first and set your name, email etc - none of them have to be real (and its probably better if theyre not), but some networks, rizon included, wont let you connect without them filled in.

post here if you need more help <3

Annoam - April 8, 2008 12:52 AM (GMT)
* Connecting to irc.rizon.net (7000)
-
* Unable to connect to server (Connection timed out)

Foamanon - April 8, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
irc.rizon.no ;)

646 - April 8, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
sorry, my fault - its .no not .net lol, thx foam

Foamanon - April 8, 2008 12:55 AM (GMT)
Easy mistake!

646 - April 8, 2008 12:56 AM (GMT)
disregard that, irc.rizon.net works fine too :P

try ports 6665-6669 by doing

/server irc.rizon.net 6665
/server irc.rizon.net 6666
/server irc.rizon.net 6667
/server irc.rizon.net 6668
/server irc.rizon.net 6669

hopefully at least 1 should work

if not, perhaps your router/firewall is blocking those ports.

Annoam - April 9, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
now im sure i havent fogrot my password as im typing it in but incase wht does i does

Foamanon - April 9, 2008 09:30 PM (GMT)
