How long do you think it may take? i'd love for it to last a few hours, hopefully no police interference!

Anon76 - February 28, 2008 08:11 PM (GMT)
I had to leave early last time, about 2.30 at which time it was still going strong, but I believe it went on till about 4pm.
(can anyone who stayed till the end confirm this?)

I'll be able to stay until at least 4pm this time, I don't think there's a set time but numbers will probably start to dwindle as the afternoon goes on.

The Police were great last time, and didn't interfere at all, as long as we all behave well again, I don't expect the police to interfere this time either.

i assume its strictly non violent? i've never been to one before so i dont know some stuff, like can there be swearing on picket signs? or clothes etc

Anon76 - February 28, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
Yep, it has to be completely peaceful.

Swearing on signs, clothing or in chants would also be a v.bad idea.

Keep it mature and sensible. Okay, a couple of jokes for the lulz, but you need to make sure we're seen as being mature and responsible, and that we aren't just there for a laugh.

Swearing is a real bad idea unless we want a bad rep from the public and the media....

You could get creative though, there was a sign that said SCIENTOLOGY OUT MY BrUM (with the r being really small)

Then again that may be a bad idea also.

ahh thank you very much, its cool anyway! i'll probably just put something like "CULT SCAM" on a high vis jacket

BritFagATDI - February 28, 2008 08:42 PM (GMT)
Last time it went on till 4, and 11 is the best starting time probably.

Makes sense.

Bad idea

High-Vis is being worn by "marshalls" who basically run the protest. They are points of contact for the police, and if anyone is out of line, the marshalls will be in charge of putting them in line or informing police of what is happening.

Part of being a marshall (I'm told) means that you can't actively protest - I'm told at the last one, people took it in turns at about 30 mins at a time. So by having a protest slogan written on a high-vis jacket wont be looked upon well by the police.

ahh right, cool thanks, i didnt know that =) leather jacket it is!

Ash - February 29, 2008 12:44 PM (GMT)
Yes, marshals can't actively protest - they're there to keep their eyes on things and deal with any trouble - but the plan is to do this in shifts of about 30 minutes so that everyone gets the chance to be part of the protest itself. I hope that everyone will be willing to take on this duty at some point, though it may not be necessary for everyone to have a go - all depends on how many people show up.

SWEARING = FAIL. Signs, songs, chatter with the public... just DON'T. We must be professional and friendly at all times and, above all, NON-THREATENING. Equally, using the C word (Cult) is tricky and should be kept to a minimum. I know this is ridiculous but we can't give them too much to get upset about. DO NOT shout abuse - we're trying to appear friendly and welcoming, even to the Scientologists. It's not them we're protesting against. Always be polite.

Last time I think the majority faded off after about 4 so I'd guess 11-4ish?

An important thing to mention is that this will be a Cat... I mean Saturday so town will be busy. We MUST NOT impede foot traffic or cause a disruption in any way. For this reason we will be spread across Ethel Street and New Street so as to allow the public to move past us. Keep in the centre. Make sure you don't wander off on your own, if there's any trouble from ANYONE (other protesters included) then please notify another Anon and, if necessary, the police.

Do not make wild, unfounded accusations about the CoS, on flyers or when speaking. Keep it all factual and make sure Anon doesn't seem like the bad guy.

Black PR - read up on this if you don't already know about it but basically unless someone expressly asks you about the accusations the CoS has made about Anon then don't mention it. This is about exposing THEIR crimes.

11 - 4 seems to be the general concensus worldwide, as far as i've been able to tell from glancing into a couple of topics in each forum on Enturb. I'll probably be getting there earlier, without being in disguise, and having a wander around the area, to familiarise myself with multiple routes in and out of the area, before I head off to change. Afterwards, I think i'll be leaving fairly soon afterwards.

11-4 is a good time I think, it worked well last time.

also, my favourite bit about it ending at 4 is that it means we will have protested all through the time difference with USanons on the eastcoast, and they will start when we finish.

I hadn't actually realised that, but now you've pointed it out, all the more reason for the times.
