Title: Make sure I'm prepared?

nail - April 11, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
Sorry to be making a personal thread here, but I want to be sure I'm prepared as I don't have much time when I can access a computer until I'd have to leave.
I spent a while trying to find someone to accompany me but it looks like I'm coming alone tomorrow. I'm from somewhere where it takes about 45 minutes to reach Birmingham on train. I have no mask or sign or anything but I'd really like to come. Obviously, I'll need a mask if I'm going to join the protest - I'll perhaps purchase a bandana or mask (I'd really love to have a V-mask as a souvenir of my Anonning) somewhere, but as I'm completely unfamiliar with Birmingham I may need some guidance.
Could a helpful Anon give me a phone number I can call/text if I get lost or need any help?
And any tips?
And because I'll be lonely tomorrow: If you see a purple-haired anon with a duck shirt, be nice to him. And I won't be there first thing; hopefully around noon.

First off dude, most of us don't know each other from adam.
Second, i can give you a dust mask.
Third off, we're all there for the same reason so we're all friends.:)
Fourth off, good luck getting a mask, they're sold out

I may take up that dust mask deal, thanks.

Asking people to give out their personal details like this is a really bad idea.
This is nothing personal, but the entire premise of anon is that we don't know each other outside of the groups who come together.

I'd be very concerned if anyone knew more about me than me being Mr Jester.

If you get lost, ask for directions to Victoria Square or the Central Library. You'll hear us from there ;)

Signage/leaflets other anon bring and may lend/give your something.
Even though we don't want you to know who we are (and vice-versa) doesn't mean we are all bastards :)

Mask wise, as LolitaProtestor said, FP are out of masks, so go get a bandanna/scarf or a half mask.

We'll see you there :)

Okay. I understand that asking for a phone number is dangerous, I just don't trust myself to not get lost. But I understand it's only paces from New Street Station, and I'll note down the places to ask for directions to. I'll bring the best mask-like things I can come up with.

Hopefully this will help:

When coming out of trainstation - go up the escalators and take a left.
Follow shops round until spot shop window with many shoes. This is on the corner of entrance/exist tunnel.
Go out that entrance/exit - there will be a McD's on your right.
Keep to left and go down the walkway - at the bottom, take a left.
Follow the main shopping street, stay on left.
Before you hit the wide be-fountained area, there is a left hand turning (about three left hand turns down the street) that will be full of protesters.
That's us.

Hope is helpful XD

Be careful here. There was a Scifag stationed at the bottom of this walkway taking random pictures when I came out here on the 15th.

Would it be best to mask up BEFORE leaving the station if arriving by there?

There was an anon who posted somewhere a very helpful Youtube vid on how to get to the protest from the Bullring. Links?

my advice would be to get a balaclava from the market with headscarf and or a generic hoodie.

This the one? http://youtube.com/watch?v=7VePaJxPffg

Whoever made it deserves a pat on the back.

That's the one! To go with the directions from earlier, the video shows you the exit mentioned from the new street station. Follow the video from 01:02 if leaving from there.
