Title: Win.

Falco - April 12, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
We have a fail, lets balance it out with Win:

Mass amounts of leaflets handed out.
Personally, more members of the public enquiring about why we were there.
Several people going past saying "good on you", "I agree with you guys", "Keep up the good work" etc

Moar?

anon1812 - April 12, 2008 06:54 PM (GMT)

Making new friends, meeting existing friends and informing the public

zabi - April 12, 2008 07:11 PM (GMT)
Having someone talk to me and tell me that he has some 'hardnuts' who we could get. O_O I just gulped.

Anonylulzz - April 12, 2008 07:26 PM (GMT)
Having an in-depth discussion with a few members of the public and sending them away with a warm handshake and something to think about. I feel all cosy inside!

Arcania - April 12, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
How we had divisions of the group, public awareness and memeotrons, and how people could go from on to the other.

The_boat_and_the_Fjord - April 12, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
(this is The guy dressed as buckethead o the guy dressed as an old man's account. I'll probably make my own in a bit.)

The wins of the day:
The protest in general, my first and I loved it. Even my girlfriend loved it and she, to be honest, had no idea about scientology beforehand, she wants to go to the next one :) (as do I, but I need to modify my mask, that got hot and wet fast!)

The CAKE!
My group did have another cake but it seemed to dissapear.

Still Alive.
Probably the winningest thing there :P

Also megaphone + surf music that is actually unknown to me yet still on my phone = my friend dancing with a six pack of bottled water in the bag on his back :P

anon1812 - April 13, 2008 09:51 AM (GMT)

My buddy Jamie was pretty good at giving them out. (the small dark haired guy who occassionally wore my trilby and glasses)

He shifted about 100 out in 20 minutes or so.

But he did cover purpletoonlink with them at one point...

Bruce - April 13, 2008 10:01 AM (GMT)
A MAJOR WIN - The orgs recruitment figures for Saturday were extremely downstat. They had NO recruits for the whole day, NO body routing at all. This hurts scientology.

The public generally and the storekeepers are getting the message that there is a pernicious CULT right in the centre of Birmingham. Many many peeps simply did not realise before.

There was open support from the local shops particularly from the guys in Cafe Rouge, the manager there was just GREAT. Their customers were vying for the window seats to watch what was going on.

This Anon takes his hat off to the Police and very much so the Community Support Officers, they were non intrusive, permitted a good natured demonstration, even handed when present - a bonza proportional response. May it CONTINUE this way. Anonymous were peaceful, caused No problems and, to some were entertaining and others very informative. It is GREAT to live in a democracy (even if it does rain most of the time).

Anonymous are learning more and more about this Cult all the time and the spreading of the knowledge base especially amongst students (one of the main targets for recruitment) is awsome. Brumanons are part of a GLOBAL effort and have made a REAL contribution to little Davey's and the Cults eventual demise.

From one Anon to all others a HUNGAMUNGEOUS well done for a brilliant day out. Mr Megaphooon Poulter Sir, take a bow. Everybody who joined in, the scienos who will have heard and above all the members of the Public who now know of the existance of the cult and have taken with them a cautionary tale of any association with scientology.

The awareness of families and particularly teenage adults IS increasing and for every single person Anonymous STOP walking through the Orgs doors in Ethel Street is a WIN.

This would not be happening without ANONYMOUS.

Well said Bruce!

That was a fantastic protest. I had more fun and more confidence than last time. For nearly the entire day the split between memanons and New Street talkanons was perfect. We got attention and educated many people.

* Martin Poulter, brilliant.
* Alien glasses man on other megaphone (Arcania? I'm easily confused!), also brilliant. Good chatting with you towards the end.
* Much leafletting.
* Doughnuts :)
* Lots of people still there at 4pm.
* Nice police, though shame we couldn't march.
* Random support.
* Friendliness.
* Articulate and knowledgeable anons.

Well done all!

The other big megaphone, the same as MP was using?
That'd be Bruce.

thousands of leaflets were handed out, i got through all my 350 or so by half 2 :lol:

huge amounts of signs and stopping people to have a chat was also an epic win =]

talking to the cool old black guy with the awesome stick and beard was fun too ^_^

I only used the megaphone for a public awareness chant thing, and singing once or twice. And gold shades aren't exactly alien glasses, if you do mean me.

Nah, he means Bruce. In the hat and glasses that seemed to change colour with an image of an Alien in the lense.

Arcania - April 13, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
Oh, he was awesome.

Yeah, I noticed that this time people seemed to be more willing to take my leaflets, compared to last time where it took ages just to get rid of a small bundle (much to my friend's amusement, in our ongoing war on who's faster).

This time people actually seemed to take them, don't know if it was cause I was further from the centre, or if I seemed more approachable, or maybe cause I went hyper after each one given, or me randomly trying to get pity...but the point still stands! Whatever method I used, it obviously worked.

At least you had your own sign, we had forgotten them till 3 days before and hadn't the resources to make any.

Next time, we'll have them, though...

Excellent post, Bruce. Totally agree. Although we had some setbacks, this day was made of Win.

Pointing one mega-megaphone up one end of the street and the other one the other way was a great way to reach the public. When we were in full flow, there was no way they could fail to know what we were protesting about.

People's interest has certainly been piqued by the Birmingham Mail front-page article, and that may have made them more interested in our leaflets. Synergy between different kinds of activism is what will really raise awareness and make it ever harder for the cult to recruit.

Also, thanks for all the nice words, Anons. I just wanted to make myself as useful to you as possible.

Anon7832 - April 13, 2008 02:53 PM (GMT)
I wish I could have stayed longer, I get the impression that it really picked up after about 2pm!

For me, I had a personal win in talking to a man on a bike at 10:30 in the morning. He seemed really interested in everything I had to say, asked a lot of questions about the church, and became increasingly critical as we talked. I'm amazed by how much I know about the church of Scientology now, it's not as if I have to struggle to think of things to tell people anymore.

I wasn't wearing a mask, and I think this made it easier for me to talk to the public. There's a lot of information in the way people 'emote' with their faces during a conversation, and I think that can help put the point across. However, I think wearing a mask shows a dedication to the cause, which may be equally effective.

All in all, a good day, many people learned about the dangers of Scientology. Many people will go home to their families saying 'guess what I saw in town today?' There will be flyers left on kitchen tables all across the West Midlands, and the word will spread further than we can ever imagine.

LegionsOfOne - April 13, 2008 03:28 PM (GMT)
i had a fair few people comment on the mask being intimidating, hence why when interacting with the public i was wearing a bandana instead. the devil hat garnered much attention, and people seemed to respond better if i took it off while speaking.

no real point here, just saying cause i felt it was relevant.

Buckethead - April 13, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
The win is continuing for me!

Although the protest is over, my message is still being thrown about.

I'm currently in an argument with someone who think's she knows it all about why scientology is a cult and not a religion and why they're in the wrong.. .this person thinks every religion is the same some how.

Free hugs dude - April 13, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
I personally liked meeting the orange hat girl and then taking her free hugs sign (sorry, I just had to spread the love!) and the hugs that came with.

And that we were there constantly, with a continued attack, rather than losing energy part way through which is what I expected.

anonymousse - April 13, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
The fact that more people showed up than February and we're still going strong! All of you who came and are trying to spread the message to Brum, thank you. And if the lady with the flowery hat sees this, meeting her was pretty damn awesome. She knows her stuff and was very friendly. An asset to Anon ;)

DaftHats - April 13, 2008 05:15 PM (GMT)
Meeting you all was lovely, it's always nice to be in the company of like-minded people. The cake was indeed delicious.

Freehugs, you're forgiven! My poor sign got very battered, but was worth it for the free hugs that were given out. :D

anonsrus - April 13, 2008 05:27 PM (GMT)
A guy asking me what my mask was made of.

Kinda hard to respond to that question, so I sort of said 'Plaaaastic?'.

Then he asked if he could touch it. It was kind of a weird experience.
