Title: Protest Guidelines/Checklist

Falco - April 17, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
Copy Pasta from 'mitts in the 12/4 planning, origionally taken from Enturb.
Most of us should know this, but just in case:

Attire and Equipment
* Suits are preferred.
* Guy Fawkes masks are preferred, but if you don't have one, any old mask will do. Sunglasses, scarves, bandanas will also do the job.
* Consider coming with a second set of clothing. This allows a quick change of appearance, thus confusing any tails.
* If you can, buy a packet of dust masks. They're cheap, and you can give the spares to fellow Anon who came without a mask.
* Wear a white rose to honour those dead because of the Co$.
* Umbrella or other water-repellant device to remove your wetness.
* Feel free to bring delicious caek for other anon.

Beware the Scilons
* Scilons will bull-bait you. They will try to provoke you into doing something stupid. DON'T fall for it. Just walk away if you get angry for any reason.
* Remember that the Scilons will be taking pictures of Anon. Masks will be important if you want to avoid litigation.
* Scilons will try to infiltrate our ranks. Be on guard, and expect them. They will also try asking us "difficult" questions. If you don't know the answer well enough to answer, DIRECT THEM TO SOMEONE WHO CAN.
* Watch your back. Scilons will be tailing you. Keep your mask on as long as possible, and be aware of your surroundings if you do take it off.
* Scilons will try to split our ranks. They will appeal to our egos, our self-importance, and try to start a civil war between oldfags/newfags in the same way they have disconnected families. Do not be fooled. We have no leaders. Stop thinking that you are one. This applies both in the RL protest, and online in the *chans and other forums.
* One possible way to deter/identify Scilons might be to carry around OT3 material, or to drop a name with no context (eg, just randomly say "David Miscaviage") and watch their reaction.

Flyers
* You can never have enough flyers.
* Watch your flyers. DO NOT LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED. Infiltrating Scilons will try to steal unattended flyers, which leaves us with less of them to hand out.
* Be wary of who you give flyers to. DO give Scilons a single flyer, but DO NOT believe anyone who asks for a whole stack to help you with handing out - that is a surefire Scilon.
* DO remember the faces of those you give flyers to, because Scilons will keep coming back for more flyers. At your discretion, consider giving them a second flyer when they say they "lost" their previous copy, but absolutely DO NOT give them a third copy.

Police and the Law
* Notify local authorities prior to the protest. Set out the conditions you would like. If they don't like your conditions, try and compromise. For example, in Sydney, the police didn't want us wearing masks. We negotiated, saying that the masks are important to our identity as Anonymous. In the end, the police said we could wear masks, on the proviso that we remove the masks if asked by an officer. If the police say you can't do something, try and negotiate a compromise.
* Respect the Police and the Law. We have built up a good reputation with them.
* Anonymous does not approve breaking the law in this particular law. Any who do break the law will be denounced as "not with us" and handed over to the Police.
* For that reason, if the Police ask you to do anything, do it, no questions asked, BEFORE the situation escalates. This includes removing your mask.
* Avoid foul language. No usage of these words: fuck, scifag, fag, bitch, shit.
* These words should be fine in general: scilon.
* DO NOT SINK TO THEIR LEVEL. As the saying goes, "two wrongs don't make a right." We need to show we are better than them.
* We keep everything above board. Nothing hidden, because we have nothing to hide.

Signs
* If you are bringing a sign, CHECK BEFORE YOU USE IT. Hold it at a distance of 20 metres. If you can't read it clearly and easily, the text isn't large enough. At the Sydney March raid, there were only two signs which would have been legible from the road.
* Consider avoiding hate-messages in signs. Police in some locations around the world confiscated signs saying "Honk if you HATE Scientology." If you are in one of these locations, try something like "Honk if you disagree with Scientology."
* TOO MANY MEMES. If you want to have a meme sign, consider making the other side anti-Co$ so you can switch it around as appropriate.

The Public
* If you are asked a question you don't know how to answer, DIRECT THEM TO SOMEONE WHO CAN.
* If someone accuses you of Religious Bigotry, point out that we support FreeZone, but not Co$. Anonymous might disagree with all religions, but none of them infringe on free speech or other human rights directly. That is why we are targeting Co$, but not FreeZone or Christianity or Islam etc.
* Try and march through places which are heavily trafficked, as long as the police are okay with this.
* Do not list private details of known Scilons, or anyone else except business information that is already public. (eg, business info for the Scilon HQ.)
* It's not really a good idea to go around handing out your delicious caek to the public, UNLESS THEY ASK FOR IT. Heed this, or Health & Safety will throatrape you.

just my £0.02, but I'd like to add:

Don't "Gang up" on members of the public. Trust your fellow anon to be able to get the message across without your help, and to summon help if they need it.

People can be, and are, wary of a bunch of masked protestors. One-to-one, or even one-to-two, the intimidation factor can be controlled, and over time conquered as they realise that under the mask are the nice kind of anon.

Sure, if you see another anon chatting with a member of the public and explaining things to them, it's tempting to want to eavesdrop or insert your own opinion as well, but this might make the person in question feel "mobbed" and harassed, which is counter-productive.

Ganging up on the Scilons, however, is good.

I'll add one from the April 12th post game;

* Don't ever be on your own during the protest. It is easier to be bullbaited, verbally assaulted or physically assaulted if you are on your own than if you are near the group.
* Similarly, try to stay close to the group; I know people want to give their leaflets/message to as many people as possible but the police will be less than happy if we start spreading out along new street.

Tis all from me I think.

A question.

What do we do if we believe we are being followed? We don't want any scilon's finding out where we live.

Group together, and disperse when you get to a predefined location (i.e. Birmingham New Street station), or in a crowd?

Also, Buy a Dog.

A question.

Have back up plan, and then a back up to your back up and so on. Not much more advice i can give, though i can advise on how to spot if your being tailed and some advise on loosing a tail. Doesnt all ways work because these guys arnt your average joe. They are trained to do this

- Cross the Road, that simple. Try and spot people who have been behind you for a bit and see if they follow you accross the road. Wont all ways work as its the oldest trick in the book.
- Window Shop, go to a window with a slight reflection and pretend to window shop. While secretly scanning the faces around you. Then proceed to walk for 5-10 minutes and stop at a similar shop and again window shop and look for the same faces
- Dont run, this gives you away. Stay calm and walk. Act like nothing is wrong. dont let on your on to them. For one it may scare them off but for two they know you have something to hide
- Loose them in a crowd. Not all ways possible but bustle in to a large crowd. Then back track out randomly down a side street or something if they try to follow you in to the crowd or stay with the crowd if they dont
- If all else fails, proceed to the nearest Police Station or Police Officer and tell them straigh "Your being followed" and they have a duty to help you.

This is my personal advice and in no way a reflection of any official advice.

Fair enough. Hopefully it won't come to any of that.

I'll defiantly keep it in mind though.

DaftHats - April 24, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
If you plan to leave by train, buy your return ticket BEFORE the protest. Then when you leave, you can just slip into the station and onto your train. Any following scilons would hopefully then have problems. (no ticket/wrong ticket/crowded at the station)

AnonyDavius - April 24, 2008 08:49 AM (GMT)
Cars.

Don't get out of them in plain sight of Scilons, and don't get into them either.

Lose any tails you might have before doing so.

I don't have one, but I know some will. be VERY careful about this. your licence plate will prolly be noted down and BAM instant info on you.

Anon1953 - April 24, 2008 11:55 AM (GMT)
I think the plan will be to get into town on the bus. So hopefully, if we do feel as though we're being followed, we can change buses etc.

Thanks for the advice you guise.
