Title: History of Fair Game in the UK

martinpoulter - May 4, 2008 12:09 AM (GMT)
Hi from Bristol!
This isn't Brum-specific, but it is UK-specific. Since the theme for the upcoming protest is Fair Game, I thought I'd write a This Is Why summary:
http://forums.whyweprotest.net/24-fair-gam...-game-uk-12270/

Yes, I know it's long. That's because Scientology has harassed an awful lot of people. I especially want Jon Atack's story to be spread far and wide, because he really suffered for what he did against the cult.

Thankyou Martin. =)

Cheers Martin.

Copypasta'ed from Enturb;

Okay, tl;dr version: the following UK citizens have been victims of Fair Game and related harassment from the Church of Scientology. It's only a small subset of the known victims. There are lots of people I haven't included yet. Plus the great majority of victims we just don't hear about because they are "shuddered into silence". But if anyone's making a "roll call" of Fair Game targets, please include these people:

Jon Atack and family
Bonnie Woods and family
Families Under Scientology Stress
Richard Price and family
Maurice William Johnson
Kenneth Robinson
Roy Wallis
Russell Miller
Professor Sir Martin Roth
Beverley Ryall
Paul Bracchi
Alison Braund and Claudia Milne (Twenty Twenty Television)
Jill Robinson, Simon Berthon and colleagues (3BM)
John Sweeney and colleagues (BBC Panorama)

I've heard a couple of times from Anons that "Fair Game doesn't happen so much over here (the UK)" and maybe that just reflects that a lot of people's stories have got lost in the bitpipe.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

For the record, here's the response I've received from pro-Scientology poster "Tom Newton" on a.r.s.:

QUOTE

"Anonymous" doesn't like Fair Game. They want to be able to
harass and persecute the Church of Scientology without fear
of reprisal.

That's hardly surprising. All criminals wish they could commit
their crimes without fear of reprisal.

But guess what? If you harass someone you had better be ready
get harassed back.

That's the way the world works, you idiots.

And the Church of Scientology doesn't care whether you approve
or not.

And they are _much_ better at harassment than you are.

Shawn Lonsdale harassed the Church of Scientology. And he
was harassed by anonymous phone calls to his employers
and landords in return.

Maybe that was the CoS. No one will ever be able to prove it,
one way or another.

And on top of his other serious problems, it drove him to
suicide.

He brought it on himself.

Do you want to be next?

Doesn't matter what the Church of Scientology says to the
press.

They haven't dropped Fair Game. I promise you that.

You fuck with them and you are Fair Game.

This is Justice.

And if you think you can't be tracked down, you are an idiot.

Game on then!

If they follow me home, then they'd better bring a screwdriver and help me finish my kitchen!

I Believe I even recognise the name Tom Newton from a.r.s. He's made plenty of controversial posts before, which has lead me to the conclusion that obvious troll is obvious.

But - Anonymous' protests are legal, Fair game Aint.
^ One small thing he appears not to have noticed, But then trolls aren't always famed for their balanced or logical arguments.

Lulz0matic - May 4, 2008 10:32 AM (GMT)
I vote turning Newton's rant into a delicious SPEACH.

I don't follow ars regularly nowadays, so no idea if Tom is a scientologist "handler", an attention-seeking nut, or both. Openly fantasising about the death of critics is majorly f'ed-up, whichever way.
