Title: A question
almajir - June 5, 2008 05:09 PM (GMT)
IF we're not allowed to leaflet on June 14th...
... if we talk to a member of the public, and they ask for further information, is it alright to write a couple of urls on some paper for them?
What I'm getting at, is it worthwhile taking some notepaper, a bunch of pens - and people doing the talking being prepared to give info to those that request it?
DaftHats - June 5, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
The question then is, what is the definition of a leaflet? Pre-printed on paper, or written down on paper there and then and given to members of the public?
Unless the paper belonged to the other person, there should not be any problem there surely?

That's what I'm getting at, really.

if it comes to it, and some one is willing make an info email up, and if they ask 4 more info get there emaill adress and then just do a mass email to all the people that put there names down

We may fall foul of the Data Protection Act, and possibly some (again) council restrictions on collecting people's personal data (I'm only making an educated guess about the council, it seems something they'd licence or some crap)

DaftHats - June 5, 2008 10:11 PM (GMT)
See how much it costs to have a licence for a clipboard?

Yeah, but seeing as we've had to spend a lot of time hammering the council/police for a response to the leafleting/"cult"/megaphones/stall/caek/Xenu/pirates ship and so on, we can't start trying to get info and fight over this as well.
If an anon can look into all the legal stuff about it, cool, but theres a lot of anon working on the stuff where the excrement has hit the air movement device.

Knowing the Council, £255 each clipboard, £49 per pen, and a supplement of £25 for each bit of string to tie the two together <_<

I think that writing something down would count as printed matter, knowing BCC. Of course if you happen to leave an A4 pad an pen lying around and said person writes stuff down...worth a try.
anonsrus - June 6, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
Wait, if that's the case, I could be fined for writing directions for someone within the inner ring road?
Bullshit.
EDIT: Not that I could write directions in Birmingham anyway.
anonuk323 - June 6, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
I agree it is stupid.
We could however give someone a blank piece of paper, lend them a pen and tell them the site addresses.
We aren't therefore distributing printed material, just blank sheets of paper.
If the public asks, point out the stupid restriction.
This could of course be moot if Anon76's email has the desired effect.

we wont get done for DPA because they are giving us their email adresses for the purpose of us to send them urls...
if we were to sell their email adresses to spammers, then that would be in violation of it
i would take pens and watnot but i doubt many people would feel comfortable talking to Nixon. even in shades =[ not the best pulling outfit tbh...

no the DPA coves everything about the data not just us having it, but making sure it is secure, that if someone asks we an tell them what we have on them, but as its just an email and we can destroy the list after should be ok.
Nixon - June 6, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
i aint no crook!
i just know that if we are given email adresses and people know we are going to send them links, we wont violate anything unless we use it to make money or plan mass data fraud or something. i dunno.
but it would be ridiculous for us to be banned from doing that anyways.
anonsrus - June 7, 2008 08:16 AM (GMT)
Amirite in saying data held for personal purposes is exempt from DPA?
Therefore, if we take the data on behalf of the person, and not the "group", we'd be exempt?

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/Acts/Acts1998/ukpga...9_en_9#sch1-pt1Key points we'd need to look at are at the top there, and it seems to me we'd be fine by them.

We thought that about the free literature law and look what happened there ...
