Title: NarConon
Description: Let's get this out in the open.

Hey guys. I've been doing some more research, and I've found some vicious info. Many of you will already know this, but I think presented correctly, this can be one of the most hard-hitting points we use to the public in Spy vs Sci. I've stressed in another post the importance of bringing into light the most shocking, gripping issues - and the NarConon programme and its controversy fits this bill perfectly.

NarConon is prescribing dangerous chemicals to those on the programme.

One of the key treatments of NarConon is the 'Purification Rundown'. It involves, according to the NarConon programme (http://www.drugrehab.co.uk/narconon_detoxification.htm):

QUOTE
An exact daily regime of nutritional supplements, supervised exercise and periods of time sweating in a dry sauna.

However, what's actually going on behind the scenes is in fact a dangerous, irresponsible treatment programme that utilises an agent called niacin (also known as nicotinic acid) to "...rid the fatty tissues of these drug residues and toxins..." (again, taken from the NarConon website). The Co$ are convinced that this 'drug residue' exists, unfounded as that belief is, and are prescribing niacin in vast quantities to clean them up.

Let's have a look at what actually happens when you overload your body with niacin:

"Large doses of niacin can cause liver damage, peptic ulcers, and skin rashes. Even normal doses can be associated with skin flushing. It can be prescribed as a treatment for elevated total cholesterol and other types of lipid disorders, but it should only be used with medical supervision due to its potential for severe side effects."
- "Medical Encyclopedia: Niacin" in Medline Plus

Don't believe the Medical Encyclopedia?

Nor does Tom Cruise, apparently. And poor Katie Holmes is feeling the effects of this.

Check this out:

QUOTE
Tom Cruise’s lover, beautiful actress Katie Holmes appeared with strange sores on her face, making people wondering if the rash didn’t pop up after a strange scientologist ritual of detoxification.

Apparently, this treatment involves doses of the vitamin Niacin which helps purify the body of negative alien substances. The doses the vitamin-B complex can cause red rashes.

But the Scientology Church denies any implication. A Scientology official said: "Whatever you see on her face has got nothing to do with us. It’s insulting that you would ask such a thing."

According to New York Daily News, Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard said that using niacin with exercises and sauna sessions will help the body to purify from of 'radiation' or negative alien substances.

Also on that link is a study carried out by McKenny et al - demonstrating that the Medical Encyclopedia was very much correct in its judgement of niacin as potentially very harmful:

QUOTE
Nine of the 23 patients assigned to IR niacin withdrew from the trial before completing the 3-g dose phase because of adverse reactions, including vasodilation (flushing, itching, rash), fatigue, and acanthosis nigricans (a wart-like skin eruption).

So, yes, niacin = bad. The usage of niacin in drug rehabilitation is, like many claims of the Co$, totally unfounded and ineffectual, but is also expensive:

"A cleansing process, intended to remove drugs supposedly stored in body fat through running, taking megadoses of vitamins and minerals, and sweating in a sauna for hours every day. The Purif costs roughly $1,500, and takes about two weeks to do. There is no scientific evidence to back up the cult of Scientology's claims about the supposed benefits of the Purif."
- The ARS Acronym/Terminology FAQ v3.5 by Martin Hunt

$1,500?!?

I don't need to say much here. The fact that they are charging drug addicts these extortionate prices is entirely unethical and unacceptable. It is yet another example of money being their ultimate goal, and yet another issue we need to make very, very public.

I'll leave you with the quote from the 'church' itself, regarding the Purif programme:

QUOTE
It is the job of [public representatives ("PRs")] to make the Purif the thing to do to create a craze greater than jogging.
[Public relation ("PR")] backup to get media and media features on the Purif is essential. PR needs to create the image that the Purif is the 'in thing', the latest health fad and craze sweeping the world.

PRs needs to ally opinion leaders, professionals and government officials in the area of health so that they inspect and validate the Purification Rundown. With this type of backup PR makes the Purif the thing to do by popularizing it through media channels.

- Scientology's Social Coordination Committee (1982): "Briefing Purification Rundown / The vital role of PR"

Let's not let this become 'the latest craze', guys.

If people are in any doubt as to Scientologys ability to infiltrate our society through narconon, and more importantly how close it has come to Birmingham, then see the link below.

This was one of our city secondary schools that was targeted!

this is really interesting stuff, do the police know about this?

Also, the co$ use NARCON as another way to get vunrable people in to the cult.Talk about vultures.

Good article, it covers much of the dangers and tricks they use even although it's a year old.

Oh, yeah, I've had a look at that website. Very useful, and backed up with enough reasonably-objective evidence to give it weight.
