Title: After Protest Safety
Description: General Tips that spring to mind
Annoam - March 14, 2008 12:07 AM (GMT)
Ok, we all know security and safety for the protest, we all have our routes sorted for getting back (please do not discuss here or with anyone. Thank you). So then, whats missing. Well its the going home.
Scenario:
You have just finished the protest, you have changed into regular clothes and are on the Bus/Train/Metro home. You are sure no one has tailed you and your sat there on the seat and someone asks if they can sit next to you.
They ask "Did you see the protest in Birmingham, man it was so cool to be part of it. I was the guy in the V Mask". This sparks your interest, you start to discuss Annon and your involvement. You think you have found a Annon friend then they drop in to the Conversation "So whats your name, my names "Insert Generic Name Here".
--------------
So notice anything, because i do. You have just been identified as an Annon and they know your name and what you look like. A quick search of Facebook and they have more. Soon they are at your emails, your phone, your friends and family. All because you forgot the most important warning "The Walls have Ears".
It applies now as it did in WW2. Just be careful what you guys and Gals say, if your asked questions randomly just act dumb, pretend your asleep or forign (Parle Vous Francais (Cant spell for Shit)). If they back you in to a corner then simply stand up and walk away, contact the police and report you are being harrased.
I know we discuss Security and Safety alot but some seem to think it only apply's to the Start and Middle but not the End. Remember, the protest may be over but CoS isnt. Its all to easy to forgot it or slack off and then thats when they get you.
Hope this makes sense, its just something i feel we havent covered too much on this site (End Protest Security). Only looking out for my fellow Annons. That is all

Thanks dude. I have my afterwards clothes sorted.
Its really great we have people committed to things like this.

Simple enough;
'Did you see the protest in Birmingham?'
No. What're you on about?
It just seems like the best response.

Then again someone talking to you on public transport is unusual in itself
(The Metro is eerily quiet in the mornings)

well, yeah. it's unbritish.
I think the best tactic is, when you're not imbued with the presence of anonymous (ie. after you've changed back into clark kent), don't know anything about what's gone down, except you've heard something unspecific about people protesting.
it may seem immodest to suggest this, but it may well be that it's actually against the norm to not know about the protests, and complete ignorance would stand out. that's why I think that hearing something somewhere (can't remember exactly) about something (can't remember details) happening involving people protesting something.
however that's all hypothetical stuff in case you do get chatting with some random afterwards. it's most likely that once you've de-anon'd you'll just be you, normal, and it'll be a normal day from then on.

The best response is
'Protest? Is that the same one as they're holding in Washington DC against the war?'
Yes, there is one in Washington, same day, same time. :)

and london. it's another worldwide thing.
it's what we'll be competing against in the news, but it might also be the case that we can ride their coattails into the news.

Q: Did you see the protest?
A: No, I've been in the pub with friends all day
A: Where was it? I've only really been round the bullring
A: Yeah some dumb internet kids or something
A: No what was it about?
Basically say anything to imply you weren't a part of it.
PROTIP: don't say "yes I was there, this is the mask I wore, would you like a photo of my face"

It kind of goes without saying here, but make sure you have a couple of alternative places where you could change. If one's being watched, make sure you have back-up. And, obviously, ensure there's no-one following you after you leave as well.
Lolita Protestor - March 14, 2008 06:13 PM (GMT)
I reckon the anonymiss' and the anonymasters should try to aim to change in the same places. Like a public toilet etc, so at least if one of us us being tailed, we can all go into one place, where others may be, and come out as ordinary folk.
Anon76 - March 14, 2008 06:23 PM (GMT)
The danger with that plan is if we have one central location to change, they could easily place someone discretely nearby with a hidden camera and photograph or video us all.
Dispersal and randomness is much better, they can't watch all of Central Brum.

That is true. But they will follow people who are walking alone. They will head to the metro, to the train station, and to the car parks.
anonymousauton - March 14, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
Travelling back a good tactic is to put a bag on the seat next to you, get a book out, start reading or writing and plug into an mp3 player. That should be enough to stop anyone interrupting you. If someone does interrupt you politely inform them that you don't wish to be interrupted. Do this in a loud voice so people around you notice.
If you're being harrassed on a train or tram, alert the guard; they can and should contact the British Tranport Police. And if you've got a camera phone, take the harrasser's photo.
Saturday is usually a busy day in town and city centres, so losing the droids shouldn't be that difficult.
Got my :mask: today :)

and tattooed... a quick word with the tattooist...
Not that I'm advocating anything of the sort. Just reading a webcomic which suggested the idea.
