Title: The Boat and myself complaining on S.Wheeler?
Buckethead - September 14, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
As some may know, S.Wheeler decided to stop us, out in the open, a matter of feet away from the protest as we were walking towards it.
He said we couldn't walk around with masks on and said something along the lines of "What will people think?" he also said "Fuck" quite a lot and complained we'd been sending death threats to the Co$ and complained further when we said that us two had nothing to do with that.
He took our details (heard my last name wrong though), write incredibly lightly on the thing so it's a lil' hard to read. But it basically says we were "Acting suspiciously".
Now he doesn't have the right to do this I'm aware, if he was concerned about what others were saying about us, fine, don't take our fuckin details! Anyway, later on a big issue vendor informed us that this was planned. He hears mr Wheeler talking with another person saying "okay here they come" or something along those lines.
So we feel a complaint is in order, but how exactly would we go about this and what exactly is our position in the matter?

Problem you have is you really need solid proof if your making a complaint about something specific, otherwise it gets batted away. However you could make a general complaint about his attitude which would get him spoken to by a superior. That may or may not get him to back off and stop being such an arrogant upstart, but the more complaints he gets the more the brass will have a go at him and get sick and tired and start having a go.
If you want to make a complaint my advice would be have a go about his attitude. Also reference the stop form (he should have given you the carbon copy), and put it with reference to that.

IMO, PC Wheeler is one of the few (but increasing) number of coppers who think that, because they are the police, they are the final word on anything, regardless of what the law actually says.
We need more PCs such as the WPC and PC who came after the CoS called them.
Anyhoo...
Phone up Steelhouse Lane and ask to make a complaint about PC Wheeler's attitude on the 13th, and quote the Stop form number.
The PC should tell you how to proceed from there.
They may ask you to come in in person, obviously thats up to you. Wearing a mask wouldn't be a good idea though ;)
When talking to em, tell em what you've told us, and also that PC Wheeler suddenly had no problem with 20 people wearing masks, but 2 masked people metres away from the protest were "acting suspiciously".
Obviously the thought of writing down 20 people's names didn't appeal.

Don't ask to complain, I'll pm you. Just get the stop form info. There's a better way to complain I'll pm you.
