What press was there today then?
I know there was the Birmingham Mail, but who else was there? (I gave an interview for one of the others, forgot to ask who they were with though)

Any any press articles or similar, scan and post here.

Lulz0matic - March 16, 2008 01:36 PM (GMT)
That's probably the case.

Expect it in cornershops tomorrow.

My girlfriends picking one up. =)

LegionsOfOne - March 16, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
To make up for having to scuttle off about 2.30ish (mainly due to my companion's complaints of getting cold and slightly wet...) i shall scour the birmingham papers that come unto my grasp. I expect the metro to have something and possibally the evening mail (since we was a hop, skip and jump from their offices...) to have something or other.

Brumerican - March 16, 2008 09:13 PM (GMT)
It was the Birmingham Mail, not the post :)

DEMO: City Scientology HQ targeted by members of internet group

Masked protest at ‘Cruise church’

By Will Oliphant

MASKED protestors staged a demonstration in New Street outside the Birmingham branch of the controversial Church of Scientology.
Campaigners from internet pressure group Anonymous held placards denouncing the church started in the 50s by science fiction writer L Ron Hubbard as evil and claiming it had a hand in the death of some of its followers.
Nearly 100 people wearing masks gathered outside the church’s headquarters in Ethel Street just off New Street at around 1pm on Saturday.
A spokesman for the group, who did not wish to be named, said: “We protested to the church of Scientology because it’s not run as a church – it’s run more like a cult.”
He said the group Anonymous had started its worldwide campaign against the church at the start of the year and intended to hold a demonstration in New Street once a month. “We’re not against people who choose to be scientologists. We just don’t like their actions,” said the spokesman.
Since the start of the year Anonymous have posted two threatening messages on the video-sharing website Youtube.
The organisation claims to dislike the church’s litigious nature, suppression of dissent and “campaigns of misinformation”.
A spokesman also said its followers wore masks to protect them from retaliation from the church.
It adds: “Anonymous has therefore decided that your organisation should be destroyed. For the good of your followers, for the good of mankind – for the laughs – we shall expel you from the Internet and systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form”.
During the demonstration the church, which found fame and film star Tom Cruise became a member, posted a security guard on the door of its headquarters.
No-one from the Birmingham branch was available for comment, but a statement was issued denouncing Anonymous as “cyber-terrorists hiding their identities behind masks and computer anonymity”.

Not too bad an article on us, I don't think - could be better, of course, the part about the threat's add a negative image - but on the whole, it seems okay PR. Oh, and doesn't seem to cover in enough detail the reasons we were there either.

undisclosed - March 17, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
HOLY SHI....

is that liek a standard issue generic $cientology comment or what?!

Lolita Protestor - March 17, 2008 08:04 PM (GMT)
Not bad, we need to employ a more friendly face and to ignore the bad press.

anon1812 - March 17, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
Hmm... Could be worse!!! Any press is good press???

this is one situation where not any press is good press. we are always balancing on a knife-edge PR-wise, since various aspects of anonymous make people hold certain prejudices unless we get in before them and give the right impressions.

all the scilon misinformation is designed to reinforce those prejudices and make people not trust us. a lot of the press are either just re-spewing that propaganda, or they're just making stuff up based on their own prejudices. when that happens, it's definitely bad, because people will trust their prejudices and the press more than what we say.

that article is just about on the border between good and bad, but mainly because it didn't actually say much.

Annoam - March 17, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)
Ive said it before, our group doesnt help. Expecially certain sections (you know what im referring too).

Take Mr Fetch, as i said Obvious Troll is Obvious but he has a point re the actions of a "section" of annonomous. They did troll that girl and did upset here and they enjoyed every moment.

The problem is, its that which the CoS will latch on too that part and brand us all with it (as Mr Fetch did). We need to move away from our "Roots". Its time to scatter our seed from the parent tree and grow a fresh, thats my personal opinion

anon1812 - March 17, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
...

I've now changed my mind.

Any press is not necessarily good.

We're in the same group as they are, and I dont believe you if you tell me you havent been involved in anything like that.
Also, paul fetch is an attention whore and he's literally asking for anything he gets.

You cant call yourself anonymous and then claim you have nothing to do with that. Its the same group.

Theres no point in denying any of anonymous' previous actions.

If you use anonymous' name you have to take responsibility for all the shit that goes with it.

anon1812 - March 17, 2008 09:59 PM (GMT)
No point in denying responding to that troll, hacking or other such stuff???

Dude... WTF?!?!

1) Obvious troll is Obvious, may he be slain by Many a dwarf. I can't say I've never fed a troll... but I most definitely didn't feed that one. The few I've fed, trolled me on my own turf, and I was young and foolish, and knew nothing of anon.

2) Hacking: Wouldn't know where to start. [except DDOS] But I've still not done anything.

3) I only found out about the Anon/$cilon plight after Stumbling across some 10/2 videos on the Choobs. After research into both, (And concluding despite having what appears to be a crucifix as their emblem, $cilons have Sweet f*** all to do with Christianity), I picked Anon to side with.

In all of about a month and a half, No, I most definitely have not committed the aforementioned acts of "cyber-terrorism", and I don't intend to further sully the (already shaky) name of Anon by starting.

But that's not to say that Others who side with Anonymous have not.

We can't deny they did, as that is a lie. We admit to what was done by others of the same name and emphasise that our intention is not to do the same again, as we understand it will not help our cause.

Lolita Protestor - March 17, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
We have done some bad things, but so have they. And at least our mistakes can be fixed. You can't bring back the dead.

Forget your personal actions for now, youre part of a group. A group that "stands as one". You cant call yourself anonymous and then say your group has nothing to do with any "cyber-terrorism".
I thought we were going to be honest here.
The cyber-terrorism will continue, and that includes attacks against the church.

If you use anonymous' name you have to take responsibility for all the shit that goes with it.

Not everyone came on from the usual place and those who did didnt from the usual section.

You have to understand the press and how it works, Blair is a good example. He did many greaqt things for this country. National Minimum Wage, Tax Credits, Better help towards low income familys, he tried his hardest to help us.

Yet he is branded with "The War in Iraq". No one will remember the good things about his reign. Just The War in Iraq. Im not saying we deny it, but im saying we admit it but make it clear that it was commited by annon but it is not the whole view of annon.

We need to be careful, as all though we know annon is more than that and we cover all from people who enjoy Mecha, Manga, Anime, Video Games, Lego to the people who enjoy raiding sites like Habbo. The general populace doesnt, there not going to know how to get to where we come fom or understand it. All they see is Mr Fetchs video and they think "These annon's are cruel, how can they taunt a little girl like that who has suffered so much in her life"

This is something the CoS will then latch on to and use against us, all the actions commited by a section of annon brand all of annon.

Im not saying i didnt have a chuckle at the Habbo Raid but i am saying that i most definatly am not a Cyber Terrorist, i do not have a want or need to hack in to a website and have no wish to be Racist, Sexist or anysort of -ist/-ism. I am saying, we admit our mistakes but distance ourselfs from them.

You can't compare our past deeds to that of the $cis. They can't be fixed, mistakes are just that... we must learn from them.

The Anon who never makes a mistake is never perfect.

As my physics teacher once told me.

[EDIT]: Branches are the still part of the same tree Lolita. Saying that we are a different branch is BS really. We are all Anonymous, we go by that name.

I 100% agree with Foamanon. Honesty is the best bet here. It doesn't make a difference if you joined before or after the DDoS attack. You call your self Anonymous now. So you take everything that goes with it to. Trying to escape the facts of the past is silly.

We never proclaimed to be an answer to peoples problems.

The way i see it, its quite hypocritical for the Co$ to draw attention to our past history when they are under scrutiny themselves.
