Title: Fail
Description: What didn't work?

Anon76 - March 16, 2008 12:34 PM (GMT)
A thread to post what we didn't like from last time and should avoid doing next time.

Foamanon - March 16, 2008 12:37 PM (GMT)
De-masking is an obvious one.

PennonII - March 16, 2008 12:42 PM (GMT)
Holding my sign upside down for about half an hour before bieng told by other Anons.

Soul Intruder - March 16, 2008 12:44 PM (GMT)
Yeah i think de-masking wasn't a good idea.
Next time i think we all need to learn some chants before we come.
Have 2 or 3 appointed shouty guys/gals.
Learn the words to fresh prince and never gonna give.

Not be afraid to boogy on down to the music, we have masks on... no one will know who we are :P
Maybe see if we can get someone to bring an acoustic? I can play guitar, but i don't own an acoustic.

PennonII - March 16, 2008 12:45 PM (GMT)
I wanna hear Chocolate Rain next time as well, and People knowing the lyrics to 'Still Alive'. I know the first verse or so.

I have an acoustic, I also have a les paul and I brought a portable amp with me yesterday. I learnt party hard by Andrew WK but decided against taking my guitar.
I can bring one next time though.

Anon76 - March 16, 2008 12:49 PM (GMT)
I think we overdid the Memes a bit. I'm not saying we should cut them out altogether, but we should use them more sparingly next time.

I don't think we did as much flyering as Feb 10th, on Feb 10th there were people giving out flyers all day so that anyone who wanted to learn more had some info and a website to go to.

On one occasion yesterday a bloke came up and asked if we had any leaflets and nobody near me had any, and he ended up walking away.

100% agree with both.

One thing that stuck out to me was when everybody seemed to get into little groups and started talking amongst themselves

mikeiona - March 16, 2008 03:14 PM (GMT)
Your not going to be able to stop the grouping up thing.

Sound system needs improving. We need a boombox.

Lulz0matic - March 16, 2008 03:16 PM (GMT)
Agreed.

Hermes - March 16, 2008 03:20 PM (GMT)
Ok yeah, the sound system does need mega improvement

It just seemed to me that the whole thing kinda lost initiative for a bit

Aye, for some of us we had come on our own and would go home on our own. Im glad i could talk to annon and not have to worry who i was talking too as we were all announ and i knew no one would know me from Adam. I think i got talkin to a few people during the day.

Towards the end i somehow got in a debate with Mr Obvious Cult is Obvious about how if you divided Zero by Zero the world would implode.

Anyway, i felt the lack of chants was a particular fail area. We just seemed to rehash the same one over and over. Theres only so many times i can hear Pidgeon Quilt and Cafe Quilt.

On the sound system, feel free to blame me. I did say i would try and get a cd player but all i have is a DAB radio and my friend pulled out last minute as didnt want me to take it as it was due to rain. I had failed to get one myself due to 1) my friend saying i culd use his and 2) working lots of OT (Overtime) to get some extra cash in as of late

1) Get a guy fawkes mask

3) Learn chants
4) Don't be shy
5) LULZ!

Foamanon - March 16, 2008 03:53 PM (GMT)
Getting a V mask is at the top of my to do list for the next raid.

were you watching what people were doing at the time?

I don't know where it comes from originally, but it seems fairly obvious to me what it is. then again, I saw the vids of the london one last time where they had the perfect setup and could do "church -> cult"

did I read right? did someone say that no one knew the full lyrics to still alive?
how can anyone not know the lyrics to still alive?

also, was that played at all? if it was, I didn't hear it.

the only thing I have to add to the fail roster is what i've already mentioned in the reports thread:

people still weren't sure whether we were for or against scientology until they were expressly told so.
we need to think of ways to remedy that, if there are any other than what people started doing which was saying "against" a lot while handing out leaflets.

should we use this thread to agree on which points need improvement, and then have a thread for each point in the april section?

anon1812 - March 16, 2008 03:56 PM (GMT)
^ So long as you're aware that inside the mask, you will most definitely be moist.

(But it look epic)

Mreh, i was swimming in mine. But at least my pores are clean.

Lulz0matic - March 16, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
Mine was oozing condensated nicotine. =(

BritFagATDI - March 16, 2008 04:12 PM (GMT)
I was dripping onto my leaflets, and I was scaring people, so I switched to Scalf, which I found much more comfortable and I could see more and I could eat.

Annoam - March 16, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
What, i know all the words to still alive, not a day goes by when i dont listen to from playing on my phone to completing Portal again (for the 87th time).

All so felt our splitness didnt help (We either had a lot of people giving our stickers and leaflets and next to no one shouting and chanting or Vica Versa. We should have teams next time, one dedicated to giving leaflets and informing and the others causing a racket). All so we lost our edge for the last hour or so. I think, when i left there were maybe 10 of us left.

I still think we should all wear :mask: masks if possible.

dave - March 16, 2008 05:49 PM (GMT)
De-masking after the speech was horrible fail. But because everyone else was doing it I felt that I had to... wasn't a happy anon.

V masks make you sweat and get lots of condensation on the inside... not nice.

Annoam - March 16, 2008 06:12 PM (GMT)
The person giving out stickers and saying "Free Bigmacs" he was epic fail. Seriously, we shouldnt lie or dupe people. Makes us no better than them

I kept mine on, I noticed several others kept theirs on as well. I solved the condensation problem with a tissue, wiping out the inside every so often, whenever I could make sure my face would be hidden from view.

The chants - next time, we need to make sure everyone knows what the chantd are going to be, so they can be louder

Me. And I did it to about 3 people who blatantly knew they weren't getting free big macs. But I guess looking back it was a bad idea.

So yeah... I apologize for that.

Unfortunately, I genuinely have been unable to turn up to either raids but I have helped in other ways by spreading the word etc.

I got some feedback from someone on another forum who was in the area of the protest:

QUOTE
I come across them as they begin their protest. Little wannabe 80s student protestor leading it shouts 'To New Street...where we will probably get arrested' Laughter from the others. I looked around at all them with their faces covered up with dusk masks as they all laughed and giggled about what they were doing. I walked o to my hotel.

Had a shower and walked up New Street where I saw the group again and was offere a leaflet, I took the time to lookm at it and ask what our problem is with Scientology is. He said he didn't know.

I know it's diffcult to ensure every Anon is informed but perhaps a debriefing before the next raid is in order to ensure everyone knows what they are doing?

I can't comment from personal experience, but if some of the public are coming away from the protest thinking that Anon don't know what they're doing, it needs to be sorted.

Falco - March 16, 2008 08:59 PM (GMT)
I wasn't aware of every such problem myself. Every question I was asked, I felt I was able to answer, and any others that I heard asked to other Anons, they too were able to provide an accurate response.

You didn't sound that muffled when talking to me, so with any luck, the public could hear just as well.

Why Thankyou Good Anon.

dave - March 16, 2008 09:39 PM (GMT)
at one point in Ethel street a guy asked what we were doing. the anon next to me didn't seem to be able to answer, so I took over, explained about scilons and lisa mcpherson.

everyone should know facts

Annoam - March 16, 2008 09:45 PM (GMT)
was that annon wearing a grey hoodie with crosshairs on it? If so it was me, this did happen to me once. I had a mind block complete and utter mindblock, couldnt remember a thing.

Its unfortunatly something i seem to get a lot, every so often ill be discussing a subject and then i will just not be able to remember anything about the subject for a bit before it all comes back to me. Too late for what i was doing though :( .

If it was you who bailed me then thanks, didnt mean to do it and had been doing fine fielding a few questions all ready but as i said it just hit me and nothing i could do would help.

TheDudeWhoWearsTheNirvanaShirt - March 16, 2008 10:05 PM (GMT)
I had the same thing, I get nervous when speaking to people I don't know...

undisclosed - March 16, 2008 10:23 PM (GMT)
fail points:

- maybe the overuse of rick astley

that was all

Soul Intruder - March 16, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
If you start talking to a member of the public and you get nervous, it is better to just stop, take a quick breath and think about what you're going to say next rather than "Errs" and "Umms".

I understand some people have problems speaking to people they don't know, which is fine. But every Anon there on the day should... MUST.. know their stuff.

If you are nervous then stick with another Anon, if you get asked a question then you can both chip in with the answers. Eye contact isn't necessary, look at their eye brows if you like.

I was about to have a go on the megaphone, but just as i was about to take it mr. megaphone man was nabbed by a CSO. Shame.

So yeah, stay frosty guys. Talking to people isn't a problem, just pretend you're talking out loud to yourself if it helps. :)
